How To Remove Rust From a Wheel Center Caps?
Many metal-based push through center caps are hard to avoid the problem of rust. They are usually mounted on trucks and trailers. Since these specialty vehicles are not driven around the city year-round like a family sedan, they are susceptible to the elements, especially in humid environments, where rust spreads more quickly. Rust must be removed as soon as it is found or it can eat away at the entire push through center caps, leaving it thin and brittle.
Here are some rust removal methods from RhinoTuning to help you restore the luster of your wheel center caps.
Before you start removing the rust, you need to have the following items on hand to prevent your hands from coming into direct contact with the rust:
1. First, remove the push through center caps from the rim to thoroughly clean the dirt and grease from the push through center caps using water and cleaner with a soft cloth.
2. Analyze the degree of rust on the push through center caps:
(1) For relatively mild rust, sand lightly with fine sandpaper.
(2) If the rust is serious, use a wire brush to scrub it.
Note: To avoid scratching the push through center caps, do not be so strong, you can use the tool to sand while soaking in water to rinse, to observe the degree of rust cleaning.
3. After sanding, spray the push through center caps with a rust remover to prevent further rusting.
4. Finally, rinse the push through center caps with water to ensure no residue of cleaner or rust inhibitor is left, allow them to dry naturally, and then reinstall the push through center caps once they are dry.
